About the boiler scrappage scheme
Energy
efficiency how does it affect me?
From April 1st under Part L of the building regulations all new
gas boiler installations or replacement boilers need to be high
efficiency Condensing boilers. Where necessary Heating controls
and systems will also have to be updated, such as converting
from a gravity fed system to a fully pumped system, controls
fitted such as TRV's fitted to Radiators and an Auto by pass
valve fitted where specified. Any property with floor area exceeding
150M² will require Zone controls. Boiler selection will
be based on the whole house boiler sizing method as specified
under SAP ratings.
Ask about our weather compensated heating systems that can save you up to an additional 20% on heating bills.
Boiler Scrappage Scheme
Up to 125,000 households in England with working “G-rated” boilers can apply through the Energy Saving Trust for a voucher which will entitle them to £400 off the price of a new, modern “A-rated” boiler.
You are advised to shop around to find the best deal and recommended installer which suits you before applying to the Scheme.
The Government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme will:
Save money. A household's energy bill could be cut by between £200 to £235 a year.
Save carbon. Replacing 125,000 G-rated boilers should save in the region of 140,000tCO2 per year - equivalent to taking 45,000 cars off the road
How can I apply?
The Energy Saving Trust is responsible for the administration of the scheme. You can find out more about the scheme and register for a voucher by calling the Energy Saving Trust’s advice line on 0800 512 012 or by logging on to the Energy Saving Trust website
Eligibility criteria and a list of qualifying boilers is available on the EST site.
To register you will need to supply the EST with your contact details, name and brand of boiler, name and contact details of your installer and confirmation that you have received a visit and quote from the installer. You will also need the gas-safe or MCS number of the installer.
Vouchers will be issued from 18 Jan on to the first 125,000 eligible households that register via phone and website.
Householders are free to choose who to appoint to do the work, provided the work is undertaken by GasSafe registered installers or MCS registered for renewable heat units
How does the voucher payment work?
Householders pay for the new boiler and installation up front and claim the £400 back through the Energy Saving Trust by sending in a valid voucher and invoice. The voucher will need to have been signed by the householder and the installer.
The vouchers will be valid for 12 weeks and if they are not used then will be re-allocated.
Payment will be issued by Energy Saving Trust to the householder within 25 working days of receipt of the valid voucher and invoice.

SEDBUK
('Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the UK') is the
preferred measure of the seasonal efficiency of a boiler installed
in typical domestic conditions in the UK, and is used in SAP
assessments and the Building Regulations.

The SEDBUK efficiency of most current and obsolete boilers can
be found on the website www.boilers.org.uk Although SEDBUK is
expressed as a percentage, an A to G scale of percentage bands
has also been defined in the table above. The table bands are
colour coded green A band most efficient band through to yellow
then on to red band G the least efficient.
Why are boilers targetted?
Boilers are amongst the least energy efficient appliances in
your home, they alone account for up to a third of all domestic
CO2 emissions. As the current lifespan of a boiler is 10-15 years,
making the wrong decision about what boiler to have really could
waste considerable amounts of your money and contribute to climate
change.
A heating system that uses a high efficiency condensing boiler
with the correct heating controls can save you as much a 40%
on your heating bills. It really is time to consider whether
you have the right boiler. (cited from
www.est.org.uk)
All homeowners will be responsible for ensuring central heating
work in their home complies with the relevant Building Regulations.
- From 01 April your local authority must be told when you
have a new or replacement boiler fitted. Your
installer should do this for you and will arrange for you
to receive a certificate to confirm that the new boiler
conform to building regulations.

homes energy consumption and your Carbon/ CO2 contribution
